Singapore
The University of Melbourne, through its Melbourne Graduate School of Education, offers:
- the Bachelor of Early Childhood Studies (BECS) in partnership with the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) and
- the Master of Educational Management (MEM) in partnership with the Academy of Principals (AOP).
Singapore Institute of Management
The Singapore Institute of Management is an independent, not-for-profit professional organisation founded in 1964, with the mission of helping to enhance managerial and organisational effectiveness in Singapore. Over the years, SIM expanded its role and scope beyond management development to become the leading human resource development organisation in Singapore.
This course complements the Diploma in Early Childhood Studies offered through SIM. The SIM diploma gives credit for one and a half years of the course. This amounts to credit of 150 points in the 400 point program. An additional 50 points will be given for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) to students who have five years of full time experience working in preschool settings. An honours degree option is available.
The BECS program uses a combination of intensive contact mode supplemented by distance teaching strategies. The teaching usually involves an intensive period of teaching in each subject during each semester. Additional support materials are provided to guide study and contact with staff is maintained through fax, email, teleconferencing and or/video-conferencing . Assessment will involve project work and examinations and will be developed by lecturers from the University of Melbourne. Examinations are administered through SIM.

Academy of Principals (AOP)
The Academy of Principals is committed to meeting the needs of senior educators in Singapore for continuous professional growth and development, for professional affiliation and support, and for recognition. AOP provides a high level of support and recognition to school principals, enhancing the professional status of school leaders during times of enormous educational change in Singapore.
This course is offered by the University of Melbourne, in close collaboration with the Academy of Principals and the National Institute of Education (NIE) in Singapore, designed to prepare practitioners in educational organisations to work as leaders in an international environment. The programme is designed to fill a need for a specialist qualification at the advanced level for those who hold senior positions and seek further advancement in education and training in the public and private sectors.
The course is an MBA-style course, which aims to provide a blend of practical knowledge, conceptual frameworks, and state-of-the-art research. A central feature of the programme is its problem-based approach to learning, which involves Harvard-style advanced case studies of significant problems and issues experienced at senior levels in the work setting.
The programme is offered part-time over 15 months, and students are required to complete 100 points of study including a research project. Students must have achieved a record of at least five years of experience in an educational setting including a senior appointment to be eligible.
